Xistance
The Xistance - Heart of Midlothian CD was recorded throughout 2002
and released in 2003.
The band started out making electronica style music under the name
Terra3. At some point in time Dean Gaudoin was brought in to add
live bass tracks, and then I was recruited to add some guitars.
Obviously this style of music was quite a bit different to what
I'd been playing previously with Titanium and other bands... so
my task was to try and add my own trademark guitar style, but without
totally changing the nature of the project. This was a bit of a
challenge at times, but I think it was worth the effort, because
in the end we achieved a fairly unique sound, covering a wide variety
of different musical genres.
An other aspect of this project that I enjoyed was that, for once,
I could just be 'the guitar player'. In most of my other bands,
I had been the main (or only) songwriter, band leader, organiser
and financier... but with Xistance all I really had to do was learn
the songs and show up with my gear, ready to play.
We had a lot of fun with this project, doing photo shoots and making
videos of the rehearsal & recording process - some of which
you can see on the video page on this site.
